Alice Ann Street, age 82, passed from this life on February 20, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born on November 26, 1940, in Fort Worth to the late Irene and Harry Shryoc. She had two brothers, Kelly and Bob Shryoc, who proceeded her in death.
After graduating from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Alice Ann attended Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Alice Ann lived in Graham, Texas for 59 years and was a cherished member of the community. As an active member of First United Methodist Church, she was a benevolent supporter of the music program and all of the church’s missions, including Our Daily Bread and the Apple Pie Ministry, which she helped to create. She was also a key committee member in the planning and building of the Graham Public Library. She served on the Graham Hospital Board several times and was a long time member of the Graham Hospital Auxiliary.
Known as “Annie” to her beloved grandchildren, she had the ability to find beauty in everything around her. She had a passion for nature, art, books, travel, and cooking, but she especially loved people and taking care of their needs. Her random acts of kindness for the people of Graham, most of which were done anonymously, made a real difference in the lives of many.
She could often be seen planting flowers at the library and always had the hospital and library filled with poinsettias during the holidays. Her special gift to the community was the gorgeous tulip display that she planted in her front yard each year, which earned her the nickname, “the tulip lady”. She loved sharing their beauty with everyone in Graham and encouraged people to take photos of their children and grandchildren amongst the colorful blooms.
Alice Ann is survived by daughters, Melissa York and husband David of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Anna Anderson of Dallas; son, Graham Street and husband Caio of Atlanta, Georgia.; four grandchildren, Hannah York, Addie York, Will Anderson, and Claire Anderson, and extended family members, Crispina Hernandez and her children Christy, Amanda and Justin Hernandez.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Graham, followed by a Memorial Service on Friday, February 24, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church Graham. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to the Library of Graham 910 Cherry St. Graham, TX 76450 or Graham Regional Hospital Foundation, 1301 Montgomery St. Graham, TX 76450
