Allen DeWitt McCleskey

Allen DeWitt McCleskey, 96, passed away at his home Wednesday, September 18, 2024. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Friday September 27, 2024 in Allen’s home church, First United Methodist Church Graham. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. 

Allen was born November 14, 1927 in Graham to the late Marvin Allen McCleskey and Mary Stegall McCleskey. He graduated from Graham High School in 1945. Allen attended North Texas State one year and then joined the United States Army for two years. He was called back for an additional year during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master’s Degree from Baylor University. He also did graduate work at American University in Washington, D.C. and The University of California, Berkeley.  

Allen first taught science at Graham High School, then moved to Freemont, CA. where he taught Chemistry at Washington High School until retired. 

Survivors include; niece, Candance Figg of Austin, nephews, Jim Balch and wife Sandra of Dallas, Mike Balch and wife Jane of Harlingen, and Bill Balch and wife Tammy of Denison; also surviving are several great and great-great nieces and nephews.  

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Wanda McCleskey Balch. 

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
