Alyce Marie Davidson Bradshaw was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on Monday, December 5, 2011, in Tyler, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, December 9 at 12:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Graham. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home.
The youngest of three daughters of Gertrude and Leslie Davidson, Alyce Marie was born on July 31, 1935. She grew up in Graham where she was a member of the first Girl Scout troop organized in the town and attended the First Presbyterian Church.
Alyce Marie was involved in many activities through her years in the Graham schools, but one of her loves was playing viola and touring with the GHS orchestra which included several of her closest friends.
She earned a B.A. in English from TCU and later completed a masters degree in History at Midwestern State University in 1969. Her thesis "From Pioneer to Prosperity, 1876-1926 A Narrative of Growth and Development in Young County, as Reported in the Graham Leader" was published by the Graham Leader. Her teaching career in Fort Worth, Bryson, Olney, Graham, and Crowley high schools allowed her to involve her students with meaningful projects in history and English.
Her love for Graham kept her involved in many activities over the years including the First United Methodist Church, the Humane Society of Young County, the Graham Chamber of Commerce, the Confederate Air Force and the Graham Concert Association. As a result of her parents' support of Alyce Marie's interest in and love of music she had a long relationship with the Graham Concert Association where she worked on the executive committee and most recently as membership chairman.
Even with her community involvement, Alyce Marie's first love and priority was being a mom and, in recent years, a grandmother. She inspired and encouraged her daughters in cooking, gardening and community involvement and took an active lead in their organized activities. She raised her daughters to be as strong and independent as she herself was. The relationship she had with each daughter was unique and special. She doted on her grandbabies and they adored her.
In addition to her parents, Alyce Marie was preceded in death by sister, Martha Hinson, and nephews Carey Pettus and David Hinson, and brother-in-law, Winston Pettus.
