Anna Bess Sutherland, 97, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in Graham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Anna Bess was born on December 23, 1917, to the late Jesse Howell Wright and Mary Ellen Rogers in Blanco, TX. She married Thomas Harvey Sutherland on August 12, 1950, in Graham and he preceded her in death February 22, 1972. They adopted twins: Doris (Annie)& Denis in 1957 & they adopted twins, Dean & Dana in 1961. Anna Bess was a loving wife and mother. She was a religious person that had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Graham from childhood. She believed deeply in the fact that Jesus was the Christ and "Savior." -READ Acts 4:12. She had an absolute belief in the Bible as the Word of God. And read it daily until her eyes would not let her read anymore. Her trials and tribulations came after the death of her husband, with 4 children to raise (2 facing college & 2 entering high school), money was tight and with no financial rescuer, she took a low-paying job at the Graham General Hospital. Hard worker and caring mother, she managed to see that her children got a stable and loving home, food, clothing, and an education.
Survivors include: Children, Denis Sutherland & wife, Kathy of Springtown, Dean Sutherland & wife, Carrol of Graham, and Dana Reid of Weatherford; Grandchildren, Shane Kirk, Jonathan & Brent Sutherland, Devin & Keylee Durham & husband, Raynor, Michael Brandstetter & wife, Michelle & Patrick Doyal; Great-grandchildren: Brayden and Coy Sutherland.
She was preceded in death by daughter Doris (Annie) Kirk and brothers, Maurice and Grady Wright.
Family visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
