Bill L. Burgess

Bill L. Burgess, 70, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Graham. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Veale Creek Cemetery with Dr. Lynn Nesbitt of Graham officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Bill was born on August 10, 1939 in Graham to Mazelle (Askew) Burgess and the late Ben E. Burgess. He married Betty Nance on June 2, 1961 in Commerce. Bill attended Texas Tech, East Texas State, and Midwestern and received his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Education. He was a Partner in Lone Star Auctioneers in Fort Worth. Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the Texas Auctioneer Association, and the Bunger Church of Christ. He was actively involved in farming and ranching in Young and Stephens counties.

Survivors include: wife, Betty Burgess of Graham; sons, Sim E. Burgess and wife Dana of Bunger, Will Burgess of Bunger, Ben Edward "Jiggs" Burgess of Mountain Lake, New Jersey, and John C. Burgess and Maggie of Bunger; mother, Mazelle Burgess; sister, Marilyn K. Burgess and Ed Lanford of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ben, Jessica, and Rebecca Burgess.

Memorials may be made to North Texas Rehab, Young County Junior Live Stock Show, or Graham Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
