Billy Alfred Shanklin

Billy Alfred Shanklin, 89, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his home in Graham. A Graveside funeral will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Cope Cemetery in Retta, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Bill was born August 17, 1921 in Shady Grove, Texas to the late Robert Spain and Alice Barton Shanklin. He married Joyce Ann Spears, January 29, 1944 in Dallas. She preceded him in death after 63 years of marriage on November 10, 2006. Bill worked as a lifelong Rancher and raised outstanding Quarter Horses in Central and West Texas. His Ranch work included, Bell Ranch in Pecos, Epinar Ranch in Fort Davis, Triangle Ranch in Paducah, and Good Ranch in Stephenville. Bill was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of American Quarter Horse Association and Foundation Quarter Horse. He moved to Graham in 2000 from Stephenville.

Survivors include; sons, Billy Y. Shanklin and wife Vicki, Tommy L. Shanklin all of Graham; daughter, Judy Alice West of Graham; grandchildren, Stephanie Johnston, Brody Shanklin, Codi Rae Nelson, and Brent Shanklin; seven great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

The family will be at Morrison Funeral Home Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 .p.m. to receive friends.
