Charlene Shepard, of Graham, TX, died Saturday, November 30, 2024 at her home at Elison Assisted Living in Graham, Texas. She spent Thanksgiving week in the company of her family; children, grands and greats. Charlene was the only living child of CF Harman and Ollie Mae McCluer Harman. She was born July 22, 1929 at her home in Loving, Texas where she grew up with family and friends. After graduation from Graham High School in 1946 she attended Business College in Fort Worth. Her first job was as a young child ironing aprons for 1 cent each for her dad’s General Store, Harman Grocery, in Loving. After graduation, she worked as a clerk in a lumber yard, and once married, worked on the Texas A&M University campus. Most of her life was spent raising three rambunctious boys and tending to all the things and animals on the ranch that she and Troy Lee Shepard shared for many years in The Red Top Community. As the boys approached college she began working for Tommy’s Well Service, a job she enjoyed for many years.
Charlene and Troy Lee married August 26, 1948 in Loving, Texas at Mrs. Underwood’s home with a reception following at the home of her parents CF and Ollie Harman in Loving. Charlene and Troy Lee were married for 47 years and lived in Young County most of that time. Her very active faith was lived in the Loving Baptist Church and later at Graham First Baptist Church where she enjoyed traveling with the seniors and helping as a host in the newly constructed gym.
Charlene was preceded in death by her son James Richard “Rick” Shepard, her parents CF and Ollie Harman, and her husband Troy Lee Shepard.
She is survived by her son Kelly Shepard and his wife Ellen of Roswell, GA; her son Kent Shepard and his wife Molly of McAllen, TX; her six grandchildren, Justin Shepard of Graham, Travis Shepard of Roswell, GA, Martin and Traci Shepard of Cumming, GA, Cody and Kristin Shepard of Houston, Texas, Meg and Will Johnson of Marietta GA and Tyler and Allison Shepard of Victoria, TX.
