Charles Russell Cravens, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully, with his wife and constant K9 companion Bess at his side, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at home in Southlake after a yearlong battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home in Graham.

Charles was born in Salina, KS on May 26, 1928 to Rose Elizabeth and Russell Cravens. He received his undergraduate education at Yale University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. During the Korean War he served thirty-eight months of active duty. Beginning his law practice in Dallas, TX in 1957, he specialized in the representation of financial institutions. He was an incorporator, director and past president of the Texas Association of Bank Counsel. He also served as a director of Comerica Bank for more than thirty years. Retiring from the practice of law in 1994, he moved to Southlake, TX where he spent the balance of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Hinson Cravens, of Southlake; son, Charles R. Cravens, III of Groves; three daughters, Mary C. Butler of Frisco, Jane E. Dodge of Nixa, MO, and Catherine (Katie) Brown of Lewisville. He was also survived by his six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons.
