Charles W. Horton, Jr., 80, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Graham. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Charles was born November 18, 1935 in Wichita Falls to the late Charles Walter and Carmen Catherine (Kline) Horton, Sr. He received his education in the Fort Worth Public Schools and graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School in 1953. He received a degree from Baylor University in 1957, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary 1962, Texas Wesleyan University in 1962 with a Masters in Education. Charles married Vera Helene Acock August 17, 1958 at First Baptist Church in Graham. He was a School Teacher and Counselor, Dean of Students at Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, and a Minister for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired. Charles was a Christian, a member of First Baptist Church, Sunday School Teacher of Men's Bible Class and led Monday Morning Men's Prayer Breakfast for a number of years. He was a Master Mason Young County Masonic Lodge #485, a Christian Knight Templar, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Ben Hur Shriner, a life member of the Graham Regional Medical Hospital Auxilary, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 668, and Retired Teachers Association in Graham.
Survivors include: wife, Vera Helene Horton of Graham; daughter, Christina Horton of Austin; son, Thomas Horton and wife, Chrissy of Graham; sisters, Estella H. Worley of Dunn Loring, Virginia and Irene H. Akins of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Charles Horton, IV and Chelsea Horton; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Walter Horton, III.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
