Charles Walter Horton, III, 48, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 in Graham. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Charles was born March 12, 1964 in Austin to Charles W. and Vera Helene (Acock) Horton. He was born with mental retardation and cerebral palsy and spent his time here on earth in what the world calls a handicapped body; but thanks to God and his precious promises, he's with Jesus today and will one day have a new and perfect body.
Charles was able to get the attention of most anyone he met. Maybe it was his contagious smile and unusual sounds of greeting. To the world he was different but to his family he was special. He brought joy to us and gave us a reason to laugh and not take life so seriously. Charles was a reminder of the awe of God and strengthened our faith in Christ as we daily entrusted Charles to him. Charles was a member of Voices From the Heart and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: parents, Charles and Vera Horton of Graham; brother, Tom Horton and wife, Chrissy of Graham; sister, Christy Horton of Austin; aunts, Stella Worley of Dunn Loring, VA and Irene Akins of Fort Worth; cousins, Mary Jo Reed of Van Buren, AR and Lynnell Marlow of Houston; friend E.J., Mrs. S, and Carolyn of Austin.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Marion & Thelma Acock and Charles W. and Carmen Kline Horton.
We are extremely thankful to those who poured their lives and talents into Charles to teach him and care for his many needs over the years. In Austin as he grew up, and older in Graham.
