Charles was born Sept 15th1927 to Jesse James and Willie Mae (Adams) Vaught in Seymour, Texas. Charles’ father died when he was 7 years old from complications from his services in WWI. Charles was taught at a very young age that life can be unexpected. He learned to be a hard worker and helped his mother out during those younger years. Higher education was important to Charles and he wanted to go to college.  In order to do that he worked in the oil fields of Texas to save money for college.  He graduated from Howard Payne University, Brownwood, TX with a degree in teaching. Charles served in WWII as a paratrooper towards the end of the war. Like many WWII veterans he didn’t speak often of the things he saw but was proud to have served his country. He married Mary Frances Iva Blanton in 1948 and his first child Sharon Faye was born in Wise Co, TX. His son Charles David was born 3 years later in Stephens, Texas.  He taught school in Breckenridge Texas first at the grade school level and then at the High School and was the assistant head coach and Buckeroos scout, under coach Joe Kerbel, for the High School where the Buckeroos in 1954 won their 3rd - 3A State Championship. This was a season that Charles would always remember. Charles married Lorene Sanders in 1955 and a year later his son James Otho was born and 7 years later his daughter Rhonda Kaye was born. Shortly after Rhonda was born the family moved to Finley, WA to be closer to his wife Lorene’s family.  In Finley, WA Charles taught math and drama at RiverView High School until his retirement. After the death of his wife Lorene, he moved back to Graham, TX to be closer to his Mother and his sister Mary Francis (Layfield).  In 1989 he married Marjorie Elizabeth (Vaughn) in Eliasville, TX. Charles was a Texan boy through and through and it was where his heart always was. Charles enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing. He has passed down that love of his fishing to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Charles also instilled in his posterity patriotism and hard-working values. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
