Darlene Shepard Swetnam walked into heaven from her home in Graham, Texas on July 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving husband and two children. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Loving Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Darlene was born to David Lee and Lorayne Mae (Johnson) Shepard on May 29, 1934 in Loving, Texas. On June 2, 1958 she married the love of her life, Jimmy Swetnam in Graham, Texas.
Darelene lived a life of service to God, her family, her church, and others around the world. She was a strong woman of many talents. She loved children and cared for her nieces and nephews, neighbor children, friends' children, and so many others. She was beloved "Memaw" to her two grandsons, two great grandsons, and their friends. Throughout her life she created and enjoyed many crafts including ceramics, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and quilting. She made numerous quilts and designed patterns, two of which were published in quilting magazines. She was an excellent cook. There was not much she could not do. She and her husband traveled on many mission trips to various countries in Latin America, South America, and Spain. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham, Texas, where she served in the nursery, kitchen, sunday school, and on various committees.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jimmy Swetnam; son Bobby Swetnam and wife Kathy of Loving, Texas; daughter Linda Swetnam of Graham, Texas; grandsons, Jerod Swetnam and wife Paige of Adkins, Texas, and Will Swetnam and wife Cragon of Oklahoma City; great grandsons Kaleb and Wyatt; sister, Janice Creede of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law Betty Shepard and Gayl Shepard.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gary Lee Shepard and John David Shepard.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church, international missions, 620 Fourth Street, Graham, Texas 76450.
Visitation will be Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
