DeFayne Thigpen

DeFayne Blount Thigpen, 92, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Graham. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

DeFayne was born August 16, 1921 in Graham to Emmett A. and Bainbridge Ann Vardeman Blount. She received her education in the Graham schools and the University of Texas (continuing education). She married Forrest Lee Thigpen on November 27, 1937.

DeFayne was retired as manager of the Retail Merchants Association and Credit Bureau of the Graham area. She was a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor with this firm for 33 years. She was a member of the Young County Historical Commission, a lifetime member of the Credit Women International, and a member of the Graham Industrial Association. DeFayne was also a charter member of Business and Professional Women in Graham. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham where she taught a Sunday School class for many years.

"Grandmother," "GG," and "Granny Goodwitch" will be remembered for her love of family, her love of Dr Pepper, and her love of chocolate...not necessarily in that order.

DeFayne is survived by five grandchildren, Kim Hays Phillips and husband, Mark, Lance Clem and wife, Jennifer, Ashlee Thigpen Howard and husband, Tim, Susan Hays Belanger and husband, Bob, and Padgett Thigpen Hughes and husband, Danny. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, and special "son-in-law", Chuck Stapp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five sisters, son, Fred Thigpen, daughter-in-law, Nancy Foust Thigpen Stapp, daughter, Sharon Thigpen Hays, and son-in-law, Johnny Hays.
