Delbert Lynn Grimes, Sr., 81, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 in Graham. Memorial services will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be held earlier at Newcastle Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Delbert was born June 25, 1931 in Happy, Texas to the late Joe and Ella (Strickland) Grimes. He graduated from Graham High School in 1949. Delbert graduated from Howard Payne University in 1953 and was a 4 year letterman in football while attending. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Delbert and his brothers Jodean and Eugene were in business together for nearly 50 years. They owned and operated Grimes Brothers Trucking, Feed and Cattle in Graham. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and the Circuit Riders Sunday School Class. Delbert had a great love for the family farm located in Young County west of Graham. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 4 grandsons hunting, camping and following their sports and school activities.

In addition to his parents Delbert is preceded in death by his two brothers Jodean and Eugene Grimes and a son-in-law Andy Winstel.

Survivors include his wife LaVerne Grimes of 49 years; daughter, Marsha Walden and husband Paul of Addison; son, Lynn Grimes and wife, CeCe of Peaster; grandsons, Jacob Winstel of Dallas, Samuel Winstel of Addison, Matthew and Joseph Grimes of Peaster.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
