Don Burdick left his earthly home for his Eternal Home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Don was born to Roy E. and Nettie McGrew Burdick on a hot summer day on August 14, 1933, on the family farm in the small community of Monument in Northeast Young County, Texas.
Soon after his high school graduation, he joined the Navy and served four years aboard the USS Saufley EDDE-465 stationed at Key West, Florida. He married his high school sweetheart, Annie Belle Miller, on May 28, 1954. Their family was blessed with 4 children. Don went to work for Dowell, an oil field service company, shortly after discharge from the Navy.
Many people employed in the oil industry move many times but he was able to remain in Graham. Soon after his retirement, he was employed by Stamper Operating and worked there until 2000.
Don had always worked with wood and as soon he retired, he began his second career in his workshop. He made children's toys and other small household items. Next he discovered the scroll saw and his real talent developed. He made plaques for stores, doctors, lawyers and the families of deceased friends. Then he discovered name plates and made hundreds over the years.
Clocks also became a specialty. As he aged and his health declined, he continued with his hobby as long as he was able. His final creations were Merry Christmas signs. Scripture tells us that the Father's House has many mansions. Perhaps his will be a simple workshop with a scroll saw.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years; a son, Randy Burdick of Possum Kingdom; two daughters, Debbie Chaney (Carey) of Bentonville, AR; Sheri Edwards (Michael) of San Antonio; two sisters, Barbara Black of China Spring TX and Alva Franks of Batesville, AR.
Also surviving are 5 grandsons; Travis Chaney (Angie), Clay Chaney (Kacie), Zachary Schmoker (Imelda), Grayson Brady, and Michael Edwards II. He is also survived by three great grandchildren; Will, Maybelle and Rosemary Chaney of Bentonville AR as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Michael Don; brother, Clyott Burdick; 3 sisters; Glenda Burdick, Mildred Smith and Wanda Hobbs.
