E. C. McMurray, Jr., 95, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in Austin. Funeral service is scheduled Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Street Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
E. C. (Elmer Cleburn) was born October 29, 1915 in Princeton, Texas to the late E.C., Sr. and Sereptha Jane (Cooper) McMurray. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science at East Texas State University (now University of Texas, Commerce). He also did graduate work at Sam Houston State University in Agriculture. E.C. married Martha Asalee Randles, July 17, 1938 in Princeton, and they were married almost sixty years until her death on January 14, 1998. E. C. was also married to the former Elsie Hope Sturgeon of Breckenridge from March 2002 until her death in February of 2009. E.C. was a Veteran of the U.S. Army/Air Force serving during WWII as a photographer. After the war, he taught agriculture and industrial arts for seventeen years at high schools in Sanger, Tioga, and Nocona, Texas. Then, he became a Regional Manager for Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Company for twenty years. Mr. McMurray and the family moved to Graham in 1956 because Graham was near the center of the area he managed. Later, Mr. McMurray finished out his career years being the Ag. teacher for several years at Graham Middle School. He was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the First Baptist Church. He loved music and singing the old gospel hymns.
Survivors include; two daughters, Janna Elizabeth Boyd and husband Crosby of Austin, Martha Jane Wofford and husband Louis of Rhome; grandchildren, Elizabeth Thorpe and her husband Carl of Rochester, New York, Emily Lindley and husband Kevin of Austin, Mc Boyd of Midland, Mark Kemp and wife Nicole of Springfield, Missouri, great grandchildren, Issac Thorpe and Kadin, Noah, Luke, and Cara Jane Kemp and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family time/viewing will be at Oak Street Baptist Church from noon until service time at 2:00. Pastor David Johnson, Senior Adult Minister at First Baptist, Midland will officiate at the services, with Pastor Gary Dyer (Austin Baptist Church) at the piano, and George Kohl, Minister of Music at First Baptist, Midland leading the music.
