Edward L. Campbell, 84, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away April 20, 2016. Mr. Campbell had been a resident of Hobbs since 1969. He worked as an oilfield worker and retired from Moranco Drilling. Mr. Campbell helped found the Southside girls softball league by building fields and umpiring. One of the fields is named after him in honor of his contributions.
Mr. Campbell was born in Graham, Texas, in 1931 and graduated from Graham High School in 1948. He was married for 62 years to Hanna Campbell.
He is preceded in death by his son Edward B Campbell.
He is survived by his wife and four children, Kellie Campbell of Hobbs, Owen Campbell of Houston, Jayne Smith of Arlington and Anna Beth Stapleton of Levelland. He has seven grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Nathan Smith, Valerie Zapien, Edward D. Campbell, Grace Stapleton, Emma Stapleton and Alexa Campbell. Mr. Campbell also has four great-grandchildren, Alex Zapien, Alyssa Zapien, Edward H. Campbell and Camilla Campbell.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gooseneck Cemetery in Young County under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
