Erma Lee Gillespie

Erma Lee Gillespie, 91, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 at her home in Newcastle.  Graveside service will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10 a.m. in Newcastle Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Erma was born June 8, 1932 in Young County and raised by her mother Eva (Walker) Cope.  She married Floyd Gillespie July 3, 1965 in Houston.   Erma was a loving, caring, dedicated wife and mother who gave everything of herself to her family, and in return she had the love and adoration of her family.  Erma was a sweet and special woman who left a mark on the hearts of those who knew her.  She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include: husband, Floyd Gillespie of Newcastle; daughter, Tyra Subasavage and husband, Rick of Indian Land, South Carolina; sons, Jim Carter and wife, Peggy of Graham, Corey Gillespie and wife, Nora of Turpin, Oklahoma, and George Gillespie of Newcastle; brother, Grady Cope and wife, Jimmy Sue of Russelville, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonna Gillespie Hodges, mother, Eva Cope, her grandparents, numerous beloved aunts, uncles and many good friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
