Erma Sams Shepard

Erma Sams Shepard, 79, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in Dallas. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Loving Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Erma was born July 3, 1935 in Olney to the late Clarence Wood and Nellie Ruth (Donaldson) Sams. She married Walter Gene Shepard December 14, 1951 in Loving. Erma was the Assistant Young County Tax Assessor - Collector for many years and worked for Bettis, Boyle, and Stovall as a production clerk. She was a member of Desk & Derrick Club and served as President in 1987 and held several other positions. Erma was a member of Loving Baptist Church. Her favorite hobby was spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always loved country living and helping on the farm and ranch, plus helping with oil leases they owned and operated.

Survivors include: husband, Walter Gene Shepard of Loving; son Mark Shepard and wife, Kay of Loving; granddaughter, Kelly Smith and husband, Jason of Loving; grandsons, Frankie and Brandon Bailey both of Loving; sisters, Neoma A. Pennartz of Loving, Jolene Rogers of Tyler; brothers, Jim Sams of Honey Grove and Mickey Sams of Frisco; great grandchildren Reagan and Scout Smith of Loving; several nieces and nephews and her beloved beagle, Snoopy.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Patty Sue Keller and Martha "Snookie" Jones.

Family visitation will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
