Fern McNeill Edwards

Fern McNeill Edwards, 89, died on February 17, 2009 in Graham. Services will be held Friday, February 20, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Tull of Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Fern was born in Wichita Falls on May 20, 1919, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.P. McNeill. She attended high school in Wichita Falls and Olney. She and the late John P. Edwards were married in Olney in 1939. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1999. They farmed near Jean in northern Young County until early 1943, when they moved to Graham. She was a member of First Baptist Church since that time.

Mrs. Edwards supervised the swimming pool at the Graham Woman's Club for several summers, and later she worked as a ward clerk at the Graham Regional Medical Center. She was president of the Mamie Stewart Garden Club in the 1950s, and most loved working in her flower garden and in her yard, driving her lawn tractor and mower until her late eighties.

She is survived by her three children: John Edwards and his wife Mary of Austin, Neill Edwards and his wife Phyllis of Opelousas, LA, and Lisa Edwards of Graham. She also has six grandchildren: Justin Edwards and Jill Edwards of Opelousas, LA, and Jeremy Edwards of Pineville, LA, Robb Edwards of Chicago and Peter Edwards of New York and John Miller of Graham, as well as several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a special young loved one, Julie Sayles; Also surviving are her brother, Douglas Weldon McNeill of Carrollton and her sister, Margaret Helen Besharse of Longview.
