Floy V. Hinson, Jr., 88, local retired rancher and World War II veteran died Friday, March 18, 2011 in Graham. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Randy Branson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
His maternal great-grandfather, H.S. Eichelberger, was a pioneer cattleman who arrived in Graham the fall of 1877. His maternal grandfather, Milt Eichelberger was a rancher in the Jean area at the turn of the century.
Floy Jr. was born April 11, 1922 in Graham to Mary (Eichelberger) and Floy Hinson. He was a life-time resident of Graham. Upon graduation from Graham High School in 1939, he attended Texas A&M University. After graduation from Texas A&M in 1943, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve (Infantry), and sent to the South Pacific. He married Martha Jane Davidson in Graham, May 18, 1943, before he shipped out to the South Pacific. He returned to Graham in 1946, as a 1st Lieutenant, and began ranching. He ranched until 2000. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Graham.
His wife Martha died in 1957. In 1960, he married Alyne Crouch. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and his eldest son, David Hinson. Survivors include: his son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Jan Hinson, of Sugar Land, TX, daughter Jane Cravens of Southlake, TX: one granddaughter Holly E. Hinson, M.D. of Baltimore, MD., and one grandson, Robert D. Hinson, of San Antonio, TX. Also surviving Floy are his brother, Ed M. Hinson and wife, Susan, of Graham, sister Janet (Hinson) Cavitt and her husband, Sheridan of Canyon Lake, TX., and sisters-in-law Maurine Pettus and Alyce Bradshaw, both of Graham, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
The family requests that Memorials may be made to the: First Presbyterian Church in Graham, or The Library of Graham.
The family will receive friends on Sunday 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
