Frankie Mae Kearney

Frankie Mae Kearney, 87, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 in Lubbock.  Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Frankie was born October 24, 1935 in Liberty, Alabama to the late Dewey and Mary Agnes (Sheffield) Hansard.  She married George “Buck” Kearney March 24, 1954 in Lovington, New Mexico and he preceded her in death September 8, 1986.

Frankie was born a country girl, lived life as a country girl and died a country girl. She grew up the oldest of 5 kids - 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Her family moved from Alabama to Texas in the late 40's. She finished school at Meadow High School, where she kept in touch with friends and classmates and was always sad if she missed a school reunion.

She worked hard raising 5 kids, who didn't make that easy for her sometimes. She was as much at ease with a chain saw as she was a skillet and a skill saw as she was a sewing machine. She loved camping, fishing, and traveling. She was known for fried pies and any other country meal. She cut an untold number of cords of firewood, raised peas, pigs, calves and us - all with love and care.

Survivors include: daughter, Laurie Leavitt and husband, Rob of Wolfforth and Barbara Carroll and husband, Brady of Copperas Cove; sons, Charles Kearney and wife, Vida of Lubbock, Larry Kearney and wife, Deloris of Graham, and Marlin Kearney and wife, Sherri of Idalou; sister, Cynda Silcox and husband, Matt of Greenwood, South Carolina; brother, Lynn Hansard of Brownfield; grandchildren, Heather Kearney, Brandon McCowan and wife, Stefani, Julia Weaver and husband, Caleb, Justin Kearney and wife, Gabby, Ethan Kearney, Emily Hutton and husband, Brandon, Jared Kearney and wife, Cassie and Taylor Hyles; 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sister, Lois Hansard and brother, Elbert Hansard.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
