Hillie Taylor Hayes

Hillie Taylor Hayes left this life on October 10, 2010 in Graham, Texas at the age of 78. Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gary Tull of Graham officiating. Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

He was the second born of twin boys October 27, 1931 in San Saba,Tx, the son of Elbert and Juanita (Nita) Hayes. At 6 months the family moved to Algerita and in 1941 on to Brady, Tx where he graduated from high school in 1949. He went on to college in San Angelo. His education was interrupted during the Korean War by a tour of duty in the United States Army where he served at Killeen Base as a part of a unit with the Atomic Energy Commission. Afterward he attended Texas Tech and married in 1955. Along with his father he owned and operated Hayes and Son Superette from then until 1964 during which time he had four children, Kara, Lane, Leslie, and Hunter. He later worked for and then retired from General Telephone in San Angelo and eventually did what he truly loved-ranching with his twin brother Hilton. Hillie played football in high school and college as a quarterback and defensive end and continued to love the game throughout his life. He never heard a good story or joke he didn't like. He enjoyed playing dominoes, washers, and spades, and he loved his family with a passion, especially the little ones to whom he would always introduce "milk-a-mouse" and "cow ate the cabbage". He was a dedicated father and grandfather, a man of true integrity, a man who was instantly liked, admired, and respected by everyone who met him.

Hillie is survived by three children, Kara Hayes Jennings and husband, Don, of Lewisville, Leslie Hayes Booth of McKinney, Hillie Hunter Hayes and wife, Jamye, of Graham, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister, Wanda Hayes Lancaster, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Lane George Hayes, his sister Mildred Lee Hayes, and his twin brother Hilton F. Hayes.

The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Graham Regional Hospice and to the staff of Graham Oaks Care Center for their loving care in these difficult weeks.

Memorials may be made to Graham Regional Hospice.
