Inez Williamson Heggie, 101, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 in Houston, just two weeks short of her 102nd birthday.  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Graham, TX.  Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham. Family visitation will be on Wednesday, August 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home.

A memorial service for her many Houston friends and family will also be held in Houston in the Chapel at The Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Dr. on Saturday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m.

Inez was born September 1, 1917 in Graham.  Her late parents, Dora and Bill Williamson, were a well-known and respected pioneer family in Young County.  Inez married Kenneth Heggie in 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1961.

Inez grew up on the family farm in Young County near the banks of Rock Creek.  She initially attended the one-room school at Henry Chapel before the family moved into Graham.  She attended Texas Woman’s University in Denton for two years, finishing her degree at Texas A&I University in Kingsville after Kenneth’s death.  She had a love for Texas history, and became a middle school history teacher. After she retired from the Spring Branch School District, Inez’s students maintained contact with her for many years, a testament to the impact she made on so many children’s lives and the interest she had in all people.

In her spare time, she was highly creative, and loved gardening, butterfly collecting, flower arranging, needle pointing and painting of all kinds.  Her oil, watercolor and needle point projects provided her many hours of joy.

She loved her family, and is survived by her two sons, Bill Heggie and wife Carolyn of Houston, and Larry Heggie and wife Susie of Richardson.  She was immensely proud of her four grandchildren, Kristen Heggie of Nashville, Kimberly Heggie of Houston, and Brittney Heggie and Travis Heggie of Dallas.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Clarewood House in Houston for the extraordinary and loving care they provided to Inez during her stay there.  Friends may make contributions in Inez’s memory to Clarewood House Charitable Trust (clarewoodhouse.com), First United Methodist Church of Graham, TX. (fumcgraham.org), First United Methodist Church of Houston, TX (fmhouston.com) or a religious or charity organization of your choosing.
