Jacque Allen, longtime Young County rancher and homemaker passed away Thursday, August 9th. She was born November 14th, 1929, to Tom and Mary Burns Donnell and was raised in Eliasville. She graduated from Breckenridge High School and attended what is now Texas Tech University where she was proud of being the third female to graduate from the School of Agriculture with a degree in Animal Husbandry. She met her husband Nathan while at Tech and they were married in Eliasville in 1953. After a brief stint in Fort Worth and Graham, they began their ranching career in north eastern New Mexico.
In 1961 following her father's illness they moved back to the ranch in Young County. She was determined and ultimately succeeded in living there for the rest of her life. Jacque was known for entertaining and loved to cook for family and friends. She was always ready to throw a party and loved having friends and relatives out for weekends of dove hunting, barbecue, and marathon card games that sometimes lasted the entire weekend.
When her son was in 4-H she was active as an adult leader and for many years helped with the sale committee of the Young County Junior Livestock Show. She also previously served on the board of the North Texas Rehab Center in Wichita Falls and helped organize the Texas Hereford Auxiliary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Graham, where she served on the building committee that was responsible for the present church.
She was predeceased by her parents and one sister Tommie Marie who died in childhood. She is survived by her husband Nathan Allen and one son Jeff and his wife Ellen of Graham. Three grandchildren, Thomas and his wife Tara of Houston, Travis and his wife Sydne of Greenwood, Mississippi, and Emily Allen of Dallas also survive.
A memorial service will be held Sunday August 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Graham. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Graham or the North Texas Rehab Center in Wichita Falls.
