James Dalton Crawford, Jr.

James Dalton Crawford, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 12, 2020, in Shreveport, Louisiana.  He is survived by his mother, Donna Walston Crawford; sister, Randi Crawford Allen; niece, Ansley Lumpkin and husband, Payton; nephew, Richard Allen and wife Katie; niece,  Amanda Allen Strickland; great nieces and nephews, Riley and Parker Lumpkin, Bennett and Evie Allen, and Cooper Strickland.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Dalton Crawford, Sr., paternal grandparents: Florence Dalton Crawford and Carlton Turnbull Crawford, maternal grandparents: Flora Drumm Walston and Posea Linwood Walston.

Jim was special needs from birth. He was a beautiful baby and never had a specific diagnosis. It was not until around 2 years of age that there was indication of his delayed development. Special Education was nonexistent in the public schools in the late 1950’s, so his parents searched private avenues and found Catholic schools that offered a loving and nurturing educational environment where mentally handicapped children were treated with respect and dignity. Jim spent his first 21 years at home attending day school at Notre Dame of Dallas Special School, and for the past 42 years, he was a resident of Holy Angels, an amazing residential facility with a dedicated, caring staff located on a beautiful campus nestled in the pine trees of a lovely neighborhood in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Jim leaves a legacy of love. He may never have accomplished on this earth what man sees as great, but he experienced joy and possessed a cheerful spirit. He loved his family, friends and caregivers and was loved back. Jim had a kind, happy disposition and was fun to be around. He was well liked by those who knew him. Kindness is one of the best gifts we can give to our fellow man, and Jim certainly did that.  As he passed from this life to eternity with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Jim is now healed from his recent illness and from his earthly infirmity. Jim will be missed by those close to him.
