James Lewis "J.L." Smith, 75, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 in Amarillo. Family and friends visitation will be Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel, Graham, Tx. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
J.L. was born April 26, 1941 in Sweetwater to the late James Lafayette and Rebecca Louise (Baker) Smith. He married Jacquelyn "Jackie" Faye Nell Walden February 26, 1965 in Roswell, NM. J.L was ordained as a Baptist Minister at age 18. He worked in the Savings & Loan and Banking industry in multiple locations in Texas & Clovis, NM. He worked for Prudential Securities in Lubbock, Tx and most recently for Nationwide Insurance in Amarillo, Tx. J.L. enjoyed serving people as a Rotarian, Mason, men's Bible teacher and member of the Baptist Church. His passion was to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include: wife, Jackie Smith of Amarillo, TX; daughters, Kelly Jordan of New Philadelphia, PA and Kimberly Deaton and husband, Robert of Amarillo, TX; brother, Royce Smith and wife, Kathy of Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Smith and brother, Wayne Smith.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or American Cancer Association.
