Jennie Cole, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Graham. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Throckmorton Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Graham under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Jennie was born March 30, 1929 in Perryton, Texas to Rev. Edgar Irvine and Grace Rodgers Irvine. Rev. Irvine was a Methodist minister in the Northwest Texas Conference and was the first permanent director of Ceta Canyon Methodist Church Camp in Palo Dura Canyon. Jennie spent many summers there with her father before he was appointed director. After graduating from West Texas High School in Canyon she attended McMurry University until her marriage on January 22, 1949 to Earnest Hardy Cole. Hardy was a professional photographer when they married. Hardy was the photographer for Ceta Canyon camp. Jennie's father would ask her to help Hardy with the photography. Hardy was called to the ministry in 1956. He served in the Northwest Texas conference. Jennie had a ministry all her own. She taught children's Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of UMW. Jennie had a loving and caring spirit and touched many, many lives. She had an amazing love and compassion for everyone. Jennie enjoyed camping, hiking, bird watching and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Hardy Cole, her parents and infant daughter Peggy. She is survived by her children, John Cole and wife Edith of Graham, Earnest Cole and wife Patty of Eastland, daughter Mary Huber and husband Craig of Austin. 8 Grandchildren: Dustin Huber and wife Wendy of Austin, Travis Huber and wife Christina of Austin. Trina Huber of Prosper. Elizabeth Butler and husband Will of Graham, Bryan Cole of Graham, Vanessa Cole of Oklahoma , Joey Butler of Oklahoma and Douglas Calhoun and wife Amy of Florida and 6 great grandchildren: Kyra, Lauren, Seth, Niki, Devin and Donavin.
She is also survived by 2 brothers Dick Irvine and wife Ruth of Wheeler, TX, Bob Irvine and wife Judy of Colorado and 2 sisters Delores Rinke and husband Bill of Missouri, Rebecca Price and husband Truman of Lubbock and sister-in-law Mary John Eidson of Dallas and many beloved nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to the Methodist Children's home or Ceta Canyon Methodist Church Camp.
