James “Jim” Merle Jones, age 85, passed away in Fort Worth on Saturday December 7th, 2024. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 2 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Jim was born on July 7, 1939 in Luverne, Minnesota to the late Burney and Julia (Fish) Jones.

Jim graduated college with his Broadcasting Engineering Degree and was the long time General Manager/ part owner of KSWA-AM and KWKQ-FM radio stations, he was employed there for almost 50 years. He also worked as the News Director for Graham Newspapers, Inc. He was an avid Amateur Radio Operator and enjoyed meeting people from all around the world.

Many knew him as the voice of Graham whether it was from the news hour on the radio, while out being a weather spotter keeping the community informed by remote on severe weather, and of course reporting any fires with his famous saying, “There is a Fire in the Lake Country!”

Jim served his community in many ways and was formerly a member of the Chamber of Commerce Redcoats and the Kiwanis Club.

He will forever be remembered for his immense personality and quick wit, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his daughters Angela Worley and husband Cliff of Little Elm, Cara Smith and husband Clifford of Bryson; grandchildren, Tyler Smith, Lane Smith and fiancé Shaylee Kelso, Jacob Smith and fiancé Megan Whitbeck, Bailey Cozart and husband Daylon, Brendan Worley, and Cameron Worley; great grandchildren, Rosslynn Smith and Wilder Cozart, and another one on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Burney and Julia Jones; wife, Patricia Hudson Jones.
