Joan York

Joan Lynn York, 70, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at her home in Loving.  Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Joan was born January 1, 1953 in Baytown to the late Herschel Herbert and Catherine Marie (Cannon) Read.  She married Kenneth York June 10, 1981 in Anahuac.  Joan was a teacher for many years at Open Door Christian School.

To know Joan was to love her. Joan’s greatest loves in life were her family and serving the Lord. Joan grew up in Baytown and enjoyed all things water but especially fishing trips. As a young girl she spent most weekends water skiing. Joan was happiest when her house was full of family and friends. The week of Thanksgiving was always her favorite and Black Friday shopping and game day with the girls was always the highlight. Being a teacher was Joan’s dream job. Through her work with Open Door Christian School, she witnessed to all her students and their families and was able to see many saved and baptized. 

Survivors include: husband, Kenneth York of Loving; sons, Kenneth York of Mission, Chad York of College Station, Greg Mullens and wife, Rebecca of Dayton, Jerrod Mullens and wife, Amanda of Graham, and Gary York of Loving; sister, Brenda Gibson and husband, Donald of Lake Jackson, Herschel Read, Jr. and wife, Sandy of Bedford and Chester Read and wife, Deborah of the Woodlands; ten grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by son Danny York.
