Joe Brown George

Joe Brown George passed away on December thirteenth, 2020 in Fort Worth, TX. He was 91 years old. 

Graveside service will be at Oak Grove Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May fourth, 2024.

Joe was born April 26,1929 in the Tonk Valley community to the late Florence Brown and Walter McCall George, longtime residents of Graham, TX.

Survivors include his wife, Era Josephine Womack-George, son, Dan George and wife, Beverly George of Fort Worth, TX, daughter, Stephanie Feagan and husband Mike Feagan of Midland, TX, nieces, Deborah George, Mitzi Maxfield, Cherrie Quinn. Grandchildren, Chris George, Preston George, Leslie Feagan, and Callie Feagan.

Joe moved to Graham with his family from Tonk Valley in 1941.  He worked a series of jobs at a shoe shop, movie theatre, ice plant and as a plumbers helper. At eighteen years old he joined the Merchant Marines and sailed the world on an oil tanker. Joe was drafted into the Korean War where he served from1951 to 1953.  After his Army discharge, he worked in the oil field as a roughneck and well logger.  Joe attended Texas Tech from 1956-1959 where he received an Electrical Engineering degree.  Joe was hired by Texas Utilities and lived in Odessa, TX with his family while he held different positions within the company.  He was transferred to Fort Worth where he became Vice President and Manager of Engineering and Construction for Comanche Peak nuclear power plant.  He retired in 1992.
