John Hamilton

John Phillip Hamilton, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Graham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Murray Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

John was born August 20, 1931 in Lubbock to the late Reece Burl and Georgia May (Saunders) Hamilton. He graduated from Cooper High School, Lubbock in 1948, received a BS & MA from North Texas State University, Denton and a BD & MRE from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. John married Charlotta Robinson March 25, 1950 in Denton. He was a math teacher for Keller ISD for 7 years and Big Spring ISD for 26 years. John was the author of a filmstrip series, entitled "Math In Everyday Life." He was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association and the First Baptist Church in Graham. John was a former board member of Camp Chaparral Baptist Assembly, Fort Belknap Water Supply Corp, Young County Rural Volunteer Fire Department, and Murray Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include: wife, Charlotta Hamilton of Graham; daughters Patricia Hamilton of McKinney and Joanna Spiars and husband, Tim of Richardson; sons, David Hamilton of Show Low, Arizona and Stephen Hamilton of McKinney; grandchildren, Audrey, Austen, Alyson Jo, and Andrew Spiars.

John was preceded in death by a sister, Lorene H. Qualls and brothers, Clardy, Clifford, and Gene.

Family visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
