John D. Riggs, Sr.

John D. Riggs, Sr., 87, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 at his home in Graham.  A memorial service will be held Saturday December 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

John was born, August 30, 1929 in Graham to the late Edgar Ryerson and Lucie Donalson Riggs.  He graduated from Graham High School, attended Kemper Military School, and the University of Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  John was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church and spent most of his life as an independent oil producer and owner of Riggs Petroleum Company.  He married Bobbye Smith, May 17, 1980 in Fort Worth. Later in life he worked for Corrections Corporation of America.  John was known for his love of family and his kindness to all who knew him. 

Survivors include; wife of 36 years, Bobbye Riggs of Graham; four children, John D. Riggs, Jr. of Graham, Richard M. Riggs of Carthage, Deborah Riggs Tinz of Lufkin, and Robert Ryerson Riggs of Fort Worth; "Granddaddy" to six grandchildren, Elizabeth Riggs, Carrie Riggs Herman and husband Gil, Lucie Riggs Deuel and husband Ross, Neely Eugenia Gowan, Whitney Gowan Payne and husband Wayne, Arthur Donalson Tinz and wife Alexis; two great grandchildren, Levi and Ava Tinz.

The family asks that memorials be made to Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 1102 Hillcrest, Graham, Texas 76450.
