Lee Glover

Lee Glover, 89, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 in Graham, Texas. He was born in Ward, Arkansas but spent the bulk of his adult life in Texas.

Lee attended college for a while in Beebe, Arkansas and wanted to be a football coach. Due to the circumstances, he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Marietta, Georgia, Frankfort, Germany, Aviano, Italy, Athens, Greece, Istanbul, Turkey (where he lived in the Hanoi Hilton), Okinawa, Japan and Big Spring, Texas. He floated Venice in a gondola and stood aside the leaning tower of Pisa. Lee may have been one of the most well traveled men many knew! Who would have thought that? In his first conversation with his son-n-law they joked about being smart enough for the Air Force or tough enough for the Marine Corps. We will have to call that one a draw!

Lee worked at Drilco in Midland for about 25 years becoming a manager of the Midland operation. There he forged life long relationships. He had his own business for a while and then moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1984 where he ran the shop for Triumph LOR. Lee was, no doubt, a hard man to work for but his daughter also remembers a time in Lafayette where one of Lee’s employees got into some trouble. He was a very good employee so, as they wept together, Lee told him to take some time to get his personal life situated and if he did so, he would give him another chance; he did just that and always thought highly of that gentleman. In the early 1990s, Lee moved back to Midland and eventually opened another business, Texas Machine and Fabrication, which he later sold. To watch Lee work on a machine was like watching an artist create a beloved piece of art. He took great pride in his work and passed on an unmatchable work ethic to his children.

If you knew Lee, you knew he loved team roping. A love and hobby he passed on to his sons. He was so proud of their accomplishments. There were many team ropers who didn’t even know Lee had a daughter but you were sure to know his last horse’s name; Gorgeous George! For some reason, his daughter married a man who had never been on a horse! It was also in this community that he also met his best friends, Buster and Rita Dickey. That friendship was a close one of over 50 years. Lee and Buster roped together everywhere including in Las Vegas and Lee must have drank thousands of cups of coffee with Rita. We also have to mention his favorite Cajun team roping partner Karl Girouard. There were so many great friendships forged in that arena!

One of his daughters most cherished conversations with Lee was when he mentioned that Tracy was good at everything he did and that Terry was such a good person that he was beloved by everyone who knew him. Lee was a hard man so he probably never told the boys about that conversation but I’m sure if you knew Lee, he bragged on his boys, and Teresa too, more than a little bit.

Lee is survived by his three children, Tracy (Susan) Glover, Terry Glover and Teresa (Bryan) Lamar all of Midland, his two grandsons, Tyler (Jacey) and Cade (Reannah) and his four great grand children, Tildyn, Everley, Callahan and Macklyn, and one nephew, Jimmy (Penny) Glover. He is also survived by his friend Mark House whom he met after he moved to Graham. He quickly became that friend who is closer than a brother. He is preceded in death by his parents Callie Mae and Clarence M. Glover, two brothers, Jim and Clarence H. Glover, a niece, Carol Crawford, and countless other loved ones.

Memorial services will be held at Morrison Funeral Home in Graham on February 25, 2025 at noon (followed by dinner at the Dinner Bell) and at The Church of God Family Center (on Thomason) in Midland on February 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
