Lu Duke

Lu Duke, 85, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 in Clifton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

She was born to Leonard Whitfield Wilson and Alice Marie Wilson on May 29, 1926 in Camden, Arkansas. Graduate of Harmony Grove High School, and received her degree at Henderson State University. She also did summer studies at Kent State in Ohio. She taught school all her working career. She Married Doyle J. Duke, on March 18, 1950, in Eagle Pass, Texas, and moved to Graham with her family in 1963. She was an active Teacher for her Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in Graham. She had a great deal of influence on her students at Crestview Elementary School in Graham. After retirement she enjoyed the summers in Marble, Colorado and had many friends there.

She was preceded in Death by her husband, Doyle J. Duke, 2 sisters, Elizabeth Joiner, and Margaret Outlaw.

She is survived by three sons, Louis Whitfield Duke,and Jane Bennett of Colorado, David Wilson and Michelle Duke,of Houston, and Douglas Duke, and wife Mary of Clifton, Texas; Five grandchildren, Cristina Duke, Alison Duke Lang and husband Patrick,and Katherine Duke of Washington state, Emily and Nicholas Duke of New York; nieces and nephews and many friends.
