Marjorie Jeanette Helm Lindley, 85 was a Christian mother that gave fully of herself and had a servant's heart. Everyone that knew her loved her dearly. "Sissy" (as her family affectionately called her) was an example of love, selflessness, understanding, patience, and kindness. She loved to cook and was always thinking of others by taking food to someone in need to cheer them up. She will be greatly missed.
Marjorie was born to Jeanette and Rufus Helm in Newcastle, TX on November 16, 1927. She grew up with her siblings, J Mac, Bud, Virginia, and Rufus and attended Newcastle High School. She was a cheerleader and fell in love with the quarterback her husband Billy Ray Lindley. They were married on January 4. 1946. After the war, they moved to Denton, TX where she attended Texas State College for Women. They had two children, Carol Lindley and Billy Ray Lindley II.
They moved to Dallas where she was a Pre-School teacher for a couple of years and then moved the family for a short time to El Paso, TX and Tulsa, OK. They then became long time resident's in their home of Norman, OK.
First of all, Marjorie was a homemaker for her husband and children but was always reaching out into the public. She owned a clothing store, became a realtor for McConnell Realty and then Co-Owner of Carol's Kitchen, a local restaurant. She loved to be involved with people and never met a stranger - Marjoriereally loved to talk. She was also very funny and loved to tell stories,was always involved with her children's activities and never missed an event. She loved to play bridge with friends and relatives, loved to entertain, and loved to travel. She was a long time member of McFarlin Methodist Church and was a member of the YWCA. Marjorie cherished the times with her lady friends at the Y and the numerous friends in Norman. Two ladies were very dear to her heart - Gloria Welch and Jane Sadberry.
She is survived by her husband Billy Ray Lindley of the home, Betty Ann Lindley, Plano TX, Joyce Lindley, El Paso TX, Gladys Helm, Waubun Minnesota. Also, her children, Carol Lindley, Norman OK, Bill &(wife)Pat Lindley, Edmond OK. Grandchildren, Brian &(wife)Tiffany Lindley, Oklahoma City, Melissa &(husband)Clark Roberts, Branson, MO. Great-Grandchildren, Lily Kate & Aidan James Lindley and Grand-Dog Savannah II. Preceding her in death were her parents Jeanette & Rufus Helm, and family members JMac& Louise Helm, Bud & Fran Helm, Virginia & Col. Dan B. Orr, and Rufus Helm.
Many thanks and prayers go out to all the in- home caregivers that helped mom throughout the last many months that mom needed help. A special thanks goes out to Life Care Hospice and health care givers Jackie Martinez, Leslye Rodriguez, Alisha Tasetano, and Janese Williams. Most of all we want to thank Dr. Stephen Lindsey and Dr. Mark Moses for being the most amazing, gentle, compassionate, and caring physicians you could ever have.
Visitation with the family will be from 6pm - 8pm on Tuesday August 20that Havenbrook Funeral Home 3401 Havenbrook St. Norman OK.
Visitation will also be from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday August 21st at Morrison Funeral Home in Graham, Tx. Graveside services and Interment will be at 9:30am in Newcastle, TX on Thursday August 22nd and a celebration of life will take place 11:30am at Morrison Funeral Home Graham, TX.
