Marjorie Lay Stewart, 93, of Charlottesville, died peacefully on Sunday, November 8 at her home, surrounded by three generations of loving family.
She was born January 20, 1922, the daughter of the late G.R. Lay and Lilly Manning Lay. She was lovingly married to Edward Blount Stewart of Charlottesville for nearly 50 years until his death in 2004. She graduated from Graham High School in Graham, TX, and from Texas State College for Women. She worked in radio and television, and as a public school teacher. She was a devoted amateur photographer who particularly enjoyed taking pictures of scenes of natural beauty.
She is survived by her loving children, Peggy Braun and her husband Bill, of Evergreen, CO, Mamie Bloom and her husband Bill, of Littleton, CO, Mary Stewart (and former husband Josh) of Charlottesville, and Malcolm Stewart of Washington, DC; grandchildren Luke Stewart and wife Jen, and Maya, Ezra, Alia, and Isaac Stewart-Silver, all present or former residents of Charlottesville, Scott Vincent and wife Terri of Haughton, LA, Jeff Vincent and wife DeeDee of Ft. Worth, TX, Molly Bloom of the United States Air Force, Zak Bloom of CO; great-grandchildren Mathias, Astrid, and Solveig Stewart of Charlottesville, Riley and Kyle Vincent, Taylor and Jake Vincent; nephews Graham P. Stewart, III and his wife Carol and family of Westminster, MD, Graham Gibbard and wife Jeanne of Denver, CO; and niece Carole Lawrence of Houston, TX. The family particularly wishes to thank her very special team of caregivers who provided support and friendship to Mrs. Stewart in recent years.
Hospice of the Piedmont provided invaluable help in the last weeks of her life.
A memorial service was conducted Saturday, November 14, 2015 in the Chapel of St. Paul's Memorial Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Elaine Thomas presiding. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
