Mary Lucille Day

Mary "Lucille" Day, 94, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in Graham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Burial will follow in Newcastle Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Lucille was born September 24, 1921 in Newcastle to the late Ed and Ida (Pinkston) Pinkerton. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1939. Lucille and Harry "Doode" Day were married April 4, 1942 in Newcastle. He preceded her in death June 1, 1997.

Lucille was saved during a revival at the First Baptist Church when she was 15 years old. She taught different Sunday School classes, Vacation Bible School, GAs, and served on many different church committees. She was still teaching the Adults Ladies class until 92 years of age. Lucille enjoyed cooking and sharing food with others. She was known for her gardening and mowing her lawn.

Survivors include: son, James "Butch" Day and wife, Elaine of Graham; daughter, Linda Whiteley and husband, Harold of Providence Village, seven grandchildren, Larry Day and Cathy of Gunnison, Colorado, LeAnne Hodges and Jay of Graham, Lori Miller of Graham, Kevin Whiteley and Terri of Shamrock, Jason Whiteley and Donisia of Cleburne, Brian Whiteley of Providence Village, and Kristen Treppa of Granbury; 13 great granchildren, Raelynn Day, Trevor Hodges and Ashley, Greg and Grace Miller, Justin, Tyler, Jordan, Aaron, Kade, Max, and Gavin Whiteley, Addison and Brooks Treppa; sister, Lillie Cavitt and husband, J.L. of Newcastle; sister-in-laws, Doris Pinkerton of Gruver and Bettye Pinkerton of Winters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Raymond, Ed, Jr., and Robert Pinkerton.

Family visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Newcastle.
