Mertice Barner

Mertice Barner, 93, passed away Sunday January 26, 2025. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2025 at First Baptist Church. The Family will greet friends in the Foyer of First Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. Friday until service time. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. 

Mertice was born December 6, 1931 in Ottawa, Kansas to the late Irene Phears Hamilton and Arthur Woods Hamilton. She married Burton B. Barner June 17, 1947.  He preceded her in death on June 23, 1995.

She was a former employee of Burkett Enterprises as an office manager. Mertice was an active member of First Baptist Church, Graham Hospital Auxiliary, and Lake Country RV Club. Her passion was quilting and she enjoyed being a member of First Baptist Quilters. Mertice loved playing cards and dominoes, she also loved traveling and reading. 

Survivors include; daughter, Jean Barner and Alex Price of Austin; son, Randy Barner of Mesquite; granddaughter, Holly Heft; adopted granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca McGregor; sisters-in-law, Jessie Wickliffe and Johnnie Barnett; brothers-in-law, Pete Barner and Harold Barner; several nieces and nephews also survive.
