MJ Brown

Melva June (MJ) Brown passed away gently at home July 3, 2024. She was 94 years old. She was born to Robert Devoti Richardson and Velma Gatewood Richardson in Ardmore, Oklahoma on February 17, 1930. MJ grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Education. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She married her husband William F. (Bill) Brown in 1951. They had four children: Karen, Janice, Bill, and Bob. 

They moved to Graham, Texas in 1966 and MJ fell in love with this community. Over the years she was involved in numerous organizations here including Hospital Auxiliary, CLSC, Cub Scouts, DAR, Meals on Wheels, the clothes closet, and others. She was actively involved in many ministries of First United Methodist Church including Samaritans, the Mexican Supper, Thanksgiving Food Baskets, and Our Daily Bread.

 She enjoyed travel, substitute teaching, being with family, and bridge club. She will be dearly missed by her family, numerous close friends, her church, and her community.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Brown, her daughter, Karen V. Brown, her grandson Brian E. Brown, and her granddaughter Carlie June Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Ray and husband, Rupert of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; sons, William Richardson Brown and wife, Janet of College Station and Dr. Robert Farrington Brown of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

 Memorials may be made to the Samaritan Fund of First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 88, Graham, Texas 76450 or the American Cancer Society.

No formal visitation is scheduled.  M.J. will lie in state till 8:00 p.m. tonight and till Noon tomorrow at Morrison Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church.
