Monah Sluder died with an abundance of grace and humor in the late hours of January 8, 2015. Her family gathered around her with love as she passed to a new horizon. Her strength and humor will be a beacon to family members for many generations.
On December 21, 1922, Monah Louise Neal entered this world as the second child and only daughter of Gaspard Quentin Neal and Lillian Roman Neal. Monah's childhood was spent in the Newcastle area where she attended school and assisted her parents in the publication of the Newcastle Register Newspaper.
Monah gave her hand in marriage to Leonard Sluder on July 18, 1942 in Newcastle. Years later they would welcome their sons, Craig and Neal into the family. As a dedicated mother, she was very involved in her sons' school and sports activities.
Over the years, she was also active in many civic organizations, including The Hospital Auxillary Board and Eastern Star. Neighborhood walking and bowling were also a big part of her life and she spent many funfilled evenings as a member of the Night Owl Bowling League.
Monah was lovingly called "Aunt Titoo" by her nephews and nieces because the word "Sister" (as she was known) was too difficult for young toddlers to pronounce.
Monah was predeceased by her parents; son, Craig; and brothers, Jack Quentin Neal and Gaspard Sheridan "Chic" Neal.
Her dedicated husband, Leonard of Graham; loving son, Neal and wife Valerie of Kentucky; and numerous nephews and neices, great and great-great nephews and neices, all of whom loved her very much, survive her.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Horizon Bay Assisted Living, Garden Terrace Healthcare Center, United Regional Healthcare Center and Graham Regional Home Health.
No services are planned. Any memorial gifts to a charity of choice will be greatly appreciated.
Her sweet love and caring devotion will carry throughout the lives of her many family members and special friends. We will always hold her spirit in our hearts.
