Olive Hawkins

Olive Ruby Hawkins, age 95, passed away in Graham on Friday, January 27, 2023. A funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Olive was born on May 15, 1927 in Isham, England to Ernest Edward Blaxley and Rachel Jane (Hobbs) Blaxley. At the age of 14 Olive started working, first in a shoe store, and then in a factory making bombs, and later a factory making repairs to aircraft that had been damaged in war. She met Dennis McHenry Hawkins while he was serving with the United States Air Force in England during World War 2, they married on August 27, 1945. At the young age of 18, Olive left her family and country to move to the United States and be with her new husband. They settled in Graham, Texas and raised their three children. Olive worked at several laundromats over the years, she had a regular customer base and they loved to come to her and listen to all of her stories about her unique upbringing in England during war time while she tended to their laundry.  In her later years Olive really enjoyed working in her yard.

Olive is survived by her son, Bobby Hawkins of Graham; daughter in law, Susan Hawkins of Graham; grandchildren, Dehna Shaffer, Rebecca Mosley and husband Lance, Hollie Hawkins, Latrisha Strawbridge and husband Tradd, Gyle Hawkins and wife Katie; 9 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Rachel Blaxley, husband, Dennis M. Hawkins, son, Dennis R. Hawkins, and daughter, Betty Ann Shaffer.
