Richard was born September 25, 1919 to Richard Alcetus and Carolyn R. (Tate) Drum in Olney where he grew up. Richard served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He saw service in Hawaii, Guam, and Okinawa. Before he was shipped overseas he married Loreda Parsons from Olney. They were married 73 years. After his discharge from the service Richard went to work for General American Oil Company (bought later by Conoco Phillips). After Richard retired from the oil company he bought a Boot and Shoe repair shop and learned the business. He thrived in this business but finally retired from it as well. Richard was a faithful and caring Christian who worked and supported his Churches throughout his life. He taught Sunday School and helped and supported his boys in Cub and Boy Scouts. Richard was a kind, gentle man who loved children, animals, and music. As he got older picking his guitar and singing hymns was one of his greatest pleasure.
