Richard Henry Michel, 79, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his home in Graham. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Graham.

Dick was born August 31, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mr. and Mrs. Henry William Michel. Dick graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. He married his wife, Renee, on March 22, 1958. They would have celebrated 54 years of marriage this month.

Dick began his career with General Electric and managed various manufacturing plants in the U.S. In 1966, Dick, Renee, and their children moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico to manage manufacturing plants for G.E. After five years in Puerto Rico, Dick was transferred to El Paso, Texas to implement and manage the first Maquiladora Plants for General Electric. In 1987, he was named the Chairman of the Board for GE in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean countries. He retired form GE in 1991 and continued his career for several more years as the Chief Executive Officer for Elamex, an electronics manufacturing operation located in Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Renee, son Steve Michel of El Paso, daughter June Michel of Dallas, son Tom and wife Ray Eve Michel of Austin, daughter Suzy and husband Win Graham of Graham, and daughter-in-law Elena Michel of Allen, grandchildren Stevie Michel, Mara and Vaughn Michel, and Smith, Hank, and Michel Graham, brother Robert Michel and wife Anne of Trevose, PA, sister-in-law Felicia and husband Earl Rehmann of Medford, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.
