Sadie Lou Young

Sadie Lou Young,72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Friday July 10, 2015.  Funeral is scheduled Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.

Sadie was born July 21, 1942 in Graham to the late John Lester and Cora Amy (Waggoner) McMurtry.  She graduated from Graham High School in 1960 and attended the University of Texas, transferring to Texas Tech University where she received a Bachelor of Arts and Science with an elementary teaching certificate.Sadie married the love of her life, Clint Young, June 6, 1964 in Graham.  She was a beloved elementary school teacher, positively impacting the lives of Graham children for 35 years.  Sadie was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and Delta Delta Delta Sorority.  She had a genuine love of people and a generous heart toward others.  Sadie enjoyed cooking, especially for others, and was a trusted friend and confidant to many.  Her greatest joy was her family and seeing her grandchildren grow up.

Survivors include; husband, Clint Young of Graham; daughters, Jeanna Beth Graves and husband Jay of Arlington, VA., Amber Oliver and husband Shayne of Graham; sisters, Allie Beth Allman and husband Pierce of Dallas, Jean Strehli and husband Chuck of Austin; five grandchildren, Graham and Garrett Foust of Lubbock, Parker, Preslea, and Peyton Oliver of Graham; several nieces and nephews also survive.  Sadie’s favorite motto, which she instilled in her grandkids and modeled for all she loved, was “good morals, good manners, and good grammar.”

Sadie was preceded in death by a brother, John Robert McMurtry.

The family would like to give their deepest and most sincere love and appreciation to “Team Sadie”, Linda Roberson, Roxie Durham, and Kevin Miracle for their loving care and compassion toward Sadie and her family.

The Family will be at Morrison Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to greet friends.
