Sammy Joe Gleaves, 73, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in Arlington. Graveside services will be held at the Farmer Cemetery in Farmer Friday, December 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Sam was born October 23, 1947 in Dallas to the late Dwight William and Ruby Eva (Selby) Gleaves. He married Linda Sue Jones September 10, 1974 in Haltom City. Sam was a veteran of the United States Marines. He graduated from W.T. White High School in Dallas and attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville where he was a member of the rodeo team. Sam and his brother Dwight began showing horses at a young age in Dallas where his dad owned and operated a stable. As a young man he loved traveling to rodeos with his friends and won many championship saddles in the calf roping event. He trained and showed Paint Horses for many years and was blessed with some great horses that he showed to Championships in the Halter, Western Pleasure, Calf Roping and Team Roping. He retired to ranching in Loving, Texas but he never lost his love for roping and fishing with his friends.
Survivors include: wife, Linda Gleaves of Loving; daughter, Leslie Cunningham and husband, Kevin of Allen; grandchildren, Collin, Aiden, and Ryder Cunningham; brother, Dwight Gleaves and wife, Judy of Pipe Creek; mother-in-law, Christella Jones of Loving; sister-in-law, Lisa Strong and husband, John of Hurst; nieces, Cory Jones and husband, Robert of Oakland, CA, Tanja Moser of Pipe Creek, and Gina Babin and husband, Eric of Pipe Creek; nephews, Justin J Strong of Aguila, AZ and John Ross Strong of Euless.
Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30p.m. at the funeral home.
