Sandra was born as the eldest child of Harold Leroy Daigle and Frances Bullock Daigle on September 13, 1952, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was adored by her two sisters, Connie and Phyllis, who admired and sought to emulate her. Blessed with a lovely voice, Sandra sang in music groups traveling to New York City and Washington, D.C. for performances.
Raised in Southern California, Sandra graduated from Fountain Valley High School in 1969, and continued her education at Vanguard University. After marrying Ron Dickey in 1977, Sandra gave birth in 1979 to Phillip Dickey, who was a great blessing in her life. Spending several years in civil service, she worked for the County of Orange, the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Orange County Transit Authority. Sandra also made her first foray into teaching in California, serving as director at a church preschool.
After Sandra moved to Young County, Texas in 1990 to complete her bachelor’s degree at Midwestern State University, she became an early childhood and special education teacher for Newcastle ISD. Sandra later completed her Master’s in School Psychology and served as a diagnostician for Houston area schools. Sandra attended Faith Center in Graham while she was a resident of Young County. In the past several years, she attended the Assembly of God and Methodist Churches in Stafford, TX.
Sandra found her special calling in life when she became a classroom teacher and special education diagnostician. She had an exceptional talent to work with young children, particularly those with special needs. Her own nieces and nephews loved and adored her and couldn’t wait to read a book, sing a new song, have a tea party or make the best fudge in the world with their Aunt Sandra.
Sandra loved crocheting and crafts. She gave every baby in the family a colorful blanket crocheted with her special skills. Fascinated with genealogy, Sandra spent many hours tracing her family tree. One of her last trips included a stop at a family cemetery with her cousin Joan to investigate more family history. She loved cooking and used to tweet her evening meals and favorite recipes to friends and family.
