Sidney Thomas Hearne, Jr., 88 passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 in Graham. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Richard Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Sidney was born November 30, 1923, to the late Sidney and Allie (Crouch) Hearne. He married Doris Mobley on May 14, 1946. Sid graduated from Graham High School in May, 1942. After one semester at Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas, he enlisted in the Army in January, 1943 and was shipped overseas in August. He was a member of the Artillery Battalion of the 6th Infantry Division where he served in New Guinea and the Philippines until the end of the war. Sid continued correspondence and enjoyed reunions with several of his service friends.
After he returned to Graham, he began his business career by joining Guaranty Abstract Company which was owned by W.G. Mobley, who had closed his business during the war years. Sid advanced to manager and co-owner. He later sold the abstract company and continued to be active in Mobleys, the family business on the Square. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Graham and a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Graham where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Sid is still remembered as one of the shining participants of the Rotary Follies. Always interested in his children's activities, he coached Little League Baseball and worked with the Boy Scouts of Troop 92. Sid loved sailing, fishing and yearly visits to New Mexico and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hearne of Graham, a daughter, Susan and husband, Dr. Joe Todd of Fort Worth; a son, Randy Hearne and Paula Plesko of Dallas; grandson, Garrett Todd and wife, Carrie of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Laurie and husband Dominick Esposito of Southlake; and four great-grandchildren, Julia and Mary Alice Todd and Claire and Nick Esposito.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
