T. Gene Wignall, 99, passed away on January 27, 2012 in Graham. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Gene was born on October 1, 1912 in Graham to the late Thomas Guy and Mary Mable (Haddon) Wignall. He married Oweita B. Vanhooser on February 10, 1935 in Walters, Oklahoma. Gene was a veteran of the United States Navy Seebee's 80th Construction Battalion serving in World War II. He attended Weatherford Junior College and Texas Tech University. Gene was owner of Wignall Lumber Company in Graham, a farmer and rancher, and he worked in the oil business. He enjoyed beekeeping, boat racing, and steam engines. Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and Beekeepers Association. He was a former member of Graham City Council, Hospital Board, CB Radio Club, and Amateur Radio Club.
Survivors include: wife, Oweita Wignall of Graham; daughters, Jeannine Freeman of Indiana and Sandra Birdwell and husband, Allen of Graham; grandchildren, Joe Gage, Guy Gage, Blake Gage, Kenny Freeman, Kendra Herndon, Jennifer Phillips, and Jeff Birdwell; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald, Wayne, and Gayle Wignall.
