Thelma Clay (Neill) Miller, 98, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at a local care center in Graham. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Loving Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
She was born April 30, 1914 to Rufus E and Annie (Clay) Neill in Van Alstyne, Grayson County, Texas. Thelma was the third of 8 children and spent her childhood and youth in the community of Elmont where she attended school. On November 6, 1933 she married Guy Miller and they moved to Young County, Texas, where he had been living for several years. They raised their family of six children in the Loving area until they later moved to Graham. She worked in grocery stores in both Loving and Graham. After her children were grown she attended the George B. Hamilton School of Vocational Nursing and graduated from there on September 12, 1965. She worked in hospitals in Graham, Jacksboro and Olney as well as nursing homes in Graham. Family was very important to this mother and grandmother and in her retirement years she filled the walls of her living room with pictures of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She continued to prepare lunch for great grandsons well into her 80's. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her six children and their families; son, Dr. G. Howard Miller and his companion, Michal Glaser of Austin; five daughters, Annie Belle Burdick and husband Don of Graham, Juanita Rogers of Alto, NM, Helen Waldrop and husband George of Arlington, Joyce Hinson of Graham and Shirley Miller of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren, Linda Roberts, Randy Burdick, Debbie Chaney, Sheri Brady, Brenda Covert, Beth Stearns, Robert Loftin and Jennifer Flick; fourteen great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandsons, and special friend Steve Proctor of Graham.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, daughter, Oleta Miller, two grandsons, Jeffrey Loftin and Michael Don Burdick, great grandson, Isaac Howard Flick, two son-in-laws, Jimmy Rogers and G.D. Hinson, grandson-in-law, Jim Roberts, brothers, J.D., Harold, William and R.E. Neill and sisters, Annie Mae Neill, Alta Neill and Mildred Burk.
